The American Game was originally produced as an Instagram Story on May 8th, 2018 upon the announcement by President Donald Trump that he was withdrawing the US from an international treaty between eight independent governments and the EU known colloquially as the “Iran Nuclear Deal”. That same day the Boston Red Sox played the New York Yankees in the Bronx in a game that would decide a tie breaker between both teams for the top seed in the American League. As an Iranian American it has been a longstanding frustration how little the historical context of the rivalry between Iran and the United States comes into play in the depiction of the hostilities between the two countries. Using the visual metaphor of a baseball game between the two longest standing rivals in the MLB, I listed a brief and incomplete timeline of events that have led us to our current animosities.
